About Yala National Park
Spanning 979 square kilometres along Sri Lanka's southeast coastal border, Yala National Park is the island's most legendary wildlife sanctuary, boasting one of the highest recorded leopard population densities on earth.
Guided in rugged open-top 4x4 safari jeeps by experienced naturalist chauffeurs, visitors traverse diverse ecosystems including semi-arid scrublands, freshwater waterholes, brackish coastal lagoons, and dramatic granite rock outcrops.
Alongside the elusive Panthera pardus kotiya (Sri Lankan leopard), game drives regularly encounter herds of wild Asian elephants, sloth bears foraging under palu trees, spotted deer, wild boars, mugger crocodiles, and over 215 species of resident and migratory avifauna.
